What's waiting on Oak Grove Drive

בית חם בסן אנטוניו

The center opened in 2014 for the Israelis and Hebrew speakers of South Texas, and its door has stayed open to everyone else as well. Most of what happens here goes smoother when Chava knows you're coming.

  • Friday dinner and Shabbat lunch, all year

Both meals happen every single week, holidays or not. There's no membership and no bill at the end; community donors cover each plate.

  • Shacharit at 8:00 every morning

A daily morning minyan, plus Shabbat morning services at 10:00 followed by Kiddush and a full lunch. Check in first so you know the day's schedule.

  • A mikvah right on campus

Available by advance arrangement, so you get access details and any preparation notes before you arrive.

  • An Israeli kosher kitchen

San Antonio's community kosher kitchen runs from here: fresh meals, Shabbat and holiday trays, catering, and group orders.

  • Torah classes and a rabbi who answers

Rabbi Tal studied in yeshivot in Jerusalem and New York. Bring the question you've been sitting on, in Hebrew or English.

  • Help planning a visit to San Antonio

Hotels and rentals within walking distance, kosher groceries nearby, and this week's Shabbat times, sorted for you before you land.

Heard around the table

"We came from Haifa for my husband's job at the Medical Center and knew nobody. By our second Friday, Chava already knew how my kids like their schnitzel."
Noa B., The Dominion
"I booked the mikvah two days ahead. Chava messaged me the details on WhatsApp the night before, and everything was ready and private when I got there."
Rivka S., Stone Oak
"I'm a junior at UTSA and had nowhere to go for Rosh Hashanah. Rabbi Tal had me reading part of the service by the second day."
Daniel M., Leon Springs
"We ordered from the kosher kitchen for my father's 80th. Forty guests, Israeli salads the way my mother made them, and not a crumb left over."
Yossi and Dana K., Helotes
"My parents flew in from Petah Tikva for Pesach. One call and they had seder seats, a hotel they could walk from, and a minyan in the morning."
Meir T., Shavano Park

Before you book

Short answers to what first-time guests usually want to know.

Do I need to be a member, or observant?
Neither. There's no membership and no dress code. Israelis, American Jews, students from UTSA and Trinity, travelers, and curious neighbors all sit at the same table.
What does a Shabbat meal cost?
Nothing. Meals are funded by donations to the center, a 501(c)(3) non-profit. Booking ahead simply lets Chava set a place with your name on it.
Can I use the mikvah if I'm only visiting?
Yes. It sits on the center's campus and is open by advance arrangement, so reserve a time and you'll receive access details beforehand.
Where are you, and where can I stay?
15511 Oak Grove Dr., San Antonio, TX 78255. The DoubleTree by Hilton San Antonio Northwest is roughly a 12-minute walk, which matters if you'll be walking on Shabbat.
